Preset group · Notes · A=432

Notes at A = 432. The A that breathes with the body.

For many traditions, 432 Hz is the natural tuning: the A that breathes with the body. In Cymatica it's called The One. This group is the twelve notes of the middle octave tuned from that A, from C4 to B4.

A lot of people feel 432 as warmer and pick it to meditate and rest. Put it next to the 440 group and hear the difference.

01How it's madeNotes · A=432

The formulas and the figures in the code.

The same formula as with 440, with a different A: frequency = 432 · 2^((i − 9)/12), with i from 0 (C4) to 11 (B4). C4 plays at 256.869 Hz, A4 at 432 Hz and B4 at 484.904 Hz. Measured against A = 440, A4 at 432 Hz sits at A4 -32 cents: every note drops by the same amount.

That's 12 pure tones, with no ratio or layer. In XY they're drawn against A 432 if the app is set to A = 432.

03What you seeNotes · A=432

The physical figure and the symbolic layer.

In Chladni, C4 draws a blend of modes (6, 4) and (6, 2) and A4 mode (8, 4). A third of a semitone shifts the lines a little: compare A4 at 440 and at 432 and you see it live.

No layer: it's the plate alone.

04QuestionsNotes · A=432

What people ask about this group.

Q1What is 432 Hz tuning?

Tuning with the middle A at 432 Hz instead of 440. Many traditions call it natural: if C is 256 Hz, a power of 2, and you tune with pure fifths, A comes out at exactly 432 Hz.

Q2How much does it change compared with 440?

About 32 cents, less than a third of a semitone. You can hear it if you play the two tones one after the other.

Q3Can I play at 432 with MIDI?

Yes. The app's MIDI input follows whichever tuning you pick, 440 or 432.
